From the onset of the SCF’s involvement with cheetahs, over six years ago, they have concentrated on educating the public, and especially school children, about the history of cheetahs, why they have become endangered, and what can be done to help. The SCF plan on continuing with this approach, as educating the public is a fundamental part of this project.
All SCF cheetahs are micro-chipped, DNA tested, with the results being held at the Agricultural Research Council, and listed in the International Cheetah Studbook held in Namibia. The SCF regularly monitor all the cheetahs behaviour and health by keeping detailed records, and work in close contact with their vets; Johan Wessels, BSc (Agri) BVSc, Pret 1992, South Africa and Brigitta Wessels, BVSc, Pret 1991, South Africa.
